2020 Conference in Oxford sadly cancelled

The JPLC committee has made the difficult but necessary decision to cancel this year’s conference, due to the continuing Covid-19 outbreak.

Hopefully, all of our lives will be back to something more normal by September, but social distancing and restrictions on public gatherings may be with us for some time. Either way, the safety and well-being of our JPLC community must come first.

The committee has made its decision now, to avoid organisers, speakers and the many others involved in running a successful conference, from potentially undertaking abortive work. The committee is also very mindful that many of our prospective speakers for 2020 have important public duties at this very difficult time.

The Oxford conference will return to New College and the Union for its 49th year in 2021[17-19 September 20201]. We are grateful for their understanding and support for the decision to cancel the conference this year.

In the meantime, please join us for our free, on-line event on Friday 11 September. Sadly, this will not be the Oxford conference, but it will be about planning law and will touch upon climate change and planning for a response to the pandemic. We are delighted that it will feature some of the speakers that were due to appear at Oxford, condensed into a free, 2-hour, digital package. No obligation to wear black tie (unless you really want to).

Our JPLC community is strong and we wish everyone all the best over these coming months. Stay safe.
